Triple exhibition opening during AltCom 2014

The upcoming Tusen Serier exhibition Myling is one of three exhibitions taking place at the same time at Mitt Möllan (Claesgatan 8, Malmö) Nov 6 at 17-22:

Tusen Serier: MYLING

exhibtusenposter
The Myling is a child who has been murdered by its mother and buried secretly in the woods or beneath the floor boards. Stuck between two dimensions, not alive, but alive enough to fuel their little bodies to keep growing in their graves in an unnatural way. A way that is not of our world.

Amanda Casanellas has taken this mythological creature and brought it into a new postapocalyptic context in a short story that has now been illustrated for this exhibition by different comics artists.

Yvan Alagbé & Amandine Boucher: MYSTERIES OF LOVE

exhibfrmkposter

Love, love, love. In every novel, every movie, every song. For sure, we know of many love stories, were they real or imagined. What about a history of love? Where to begin? Love is the start. Love is the end. Love is the way. Love is the mystery of live.

By Yvan Alagbé with Amandine Boucher of FREMOK.

Chili Com Carnne: QCDA

WHAT DOES QCDA STAND FOR?
QUINTESSENTIAL COMICS FOR DOCTORS AND ACCOUNTANTS?
QUOTES FROM CATHOLIC DUCKS ON ACID?
QUICK COMICS FOR DOPEY ATHLETES?
QUEST FOR CRAZY DOCTOR AUTOPSY?
QUATRO CHAVALOS DO APOPCALIPSE?

WHO CARES!!! We are not looking for treasures or answers. Our efforts and wanderings may seem futile, purposeless, and even our flesh garments meaningless, but even without a battle or mission there is an incorporeal ambition in us. We know that nothing rises from rotten bodies.

QCDA is Giant/size/Comix/zine of Chili Com Carne that brings the Portuguese new breed of comic authors in the format of four dudes (Afonso Ferreira, André Pereira, Rudolfo and Zé Burnay) and four damsels (Amanda Baeza, Hetamoé, Sílvia Rodrigues and Sofia Neto). Their works are dazzled and confused in such a way that embody the contemporary “4 knights of aPOPcalipse”: Anorexia, Smart Shops, Hooliganism and Cancer.

AltCom 2014: POSTAPOKALYPS anthology – call for submissions!

Thanks to a collaboration with C’est Bon Kultur, we can now confirm that there will be an anthology for this year’s AltCom comics festival!

The theme is POSTAPOCALYPSE and we would like you to give us your stories interpreting that theme.

fb-anthology-event
WHAT we want:
Pages: 1-5, black/white
Language: English
Format: 140x182mm (a little bit smaller than A5)
Files: High-resolution .TIFF, preferably
If you are unsure what we mean by “high-resolution”, please ask.

WHEN we want it:
Deadline: September 1

Send submissions to: altcomfestival@gmail.com

WHO we are:
The AltCom 2014 anthology will be edited by Mattias Elftorp + the C’est Bon Kultur crew.

As usual, no one gets paid for participating. But on the other hand, no one pays for it either since we’ll be giving the book away for free during and after the festival!

And yes, we do accept comics that have already been published elsewhere, as long as we like them and they fit into the theme.

POSTAPOKALYPS:
There is something liberating about imagining what could come after all we see around us has been torn to pieces. Will it be chaos or order? Tyranny or anarchy? When we are free to move in any direction, where will we go? Do we rebuild or take the opportunity to reboot? What’s your vision of the future after the end?

The word “apokalypsis” means “revelation of secrets”, not necessarily but commonly understood as referring to a prophetic vision of the end of the world. So the postapocalypse can be what comes after the vision of the end, or after the end itself, or after any revelation. Maybe it’s not the end of the world, but a more personal apocalypse? Maybe the prophecy is about the end of time itself? Or about a change in how we perceive reality?

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:
The first AltCom event took place in 2004 and was organized by C’est Bon Kultur. Since 2010 it’s a bi-annual comics festival for alternative/underground/small press comics, run by Mattias Elftorp for the Swedish Comics Association (Seriefrämjandet).

AltCom 2012!

AltCom 2012 is getting closer. Read all about it here: http://www.altcomfestival.se

To sum it up, this is what you should do:

WEDNESDAY (Nov 7):
– Tusen Serier exhibition opening @ Folkets Park 16-18.
This is an outdoors exhibition with me and Amanda Casanellas+ some of the artists of our project Tusen Serier: Amalia Alvarez, Emre Özdamarlar, Aida Ghardagian, Marco Leal. There will be wine, music, fire…

Then take a small break before going to

– CBK: In> <Bestween @ Biograf Spegeln 19-22
C’est Bon Kultur, my old comics collective, doing an exhibition about the stories in between the pages of a story by Allan Haverholm. There will be more wine and probably some other entertainment as well.

THURSDAY (Nov 8):
– CCC: Sem Fronteiras @ Galleri Ocampo 12-18
Portuguese Chili Com Carne had an exhibition a year ago at the same place. You might remember it (Futuro Primitivo). This time, it’s four artists, Ana Biscaia, André Lemos, André Coelho and Jucifer (two of which will be attending the festival), showing off their drawings. I’ve seen some of them already, they look great! There will be wine. I know that’s what you’re really after.

– Stripburger in print @ Café Simpan 18-01
A collection of Stripburger prints, posters, covers. This Slovenian group was probably my first contact with the European underground of comics, when some of them visited Malmö and SPX in 2003(?). Through them I discovered Danijel Zezelj, for example. Who you should really check out if you don’t already know his work…

FRIDAY (Nov 9):
– Nema Granice @ Kanten 13-17
This is a one-day exhibition only, so don’t miss it! I first discovered this part of the Balkan comics scene at some point when I stumbled upon an old piblication from Serbian Kosmoplovci/Studiostrip which I think was an exhibition catalogue or portfolio maybe. I thought there were some really interesting things there and I wanted to publish these artists in C’est Bon Anthology. I got their contact info through Ivana Armanini of Komikaze. Or I discovered them on the Komikaze site first and found the book later, who knows?
Meeting them all in real life for the first time at CRACK! years later, I heard about the Novo Doba festival in Belgrade so I went there the following year and met the people organizing it and here we are. And here they will be: Studiostrip, Komikaze, Turbo Comix/Novo Doba.
And yes: There will be wine and a DJ set by DJ Tozd.

Just after that, go from Kanten, across the street, through the fence and around the building to:

– Wormgod: Transgressions & TRAUMA @ Borgen 17-04
I tried to figure out what pictures to make under the title TRANSGRESSIONS for our Wormgod exhibition, but it seemed easier to make a book first and then use that as inspiration for the images. So I did. The art was a collaboration between me and Susanne Johansson (the other half of Wormgod) and there will be a soundtrack by Feberdröm. I got the books from the printer already and now we’re waiting for the CDs. And yes, then we made those pictures and we’re waiting for them to get printed too.
The first hour is the exhibition opening and there will be no entrance fee during this time, when we will also play a CD by Sektor 304 (who were going to play at TRAUMA but couldn’t make it) and show a video session with videos from Studiostrip/Kosmoplovci. Then TRAUMA starts, with 5 o’clock traffic, Anatomiteatern, Knullkraft, Khmer Noir and Lenhart Tapes (who I also met at CRACK!). There will be wine. There will be noise.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY (Nov 10-11):
– Comics fair @ Folkets Park 12-18 with lots of books, panels & presentations and more exhibitions, performance etc. I have to go to sleep now, so follow the link in the beginning of this post to see the details for this one. You’ll have to bring your own wine for this one.

And at all of these events, you can get the AltCom 2012 NO BORDERS anthology for free! 176 pages, comics by lots of international artists, cover by Bill Koeb. Niice!
